Highlands High School Reviews

It provided a great education for me and readied me for college and the working world in 1977. It did the same for my son, Andy Luken in 2007.

Great teachers, great extra curricular programs, newly remodeled building, no gangs, fear or other safety issues to distract from learning, family oriented with lots of parent support from lunch servers to fund raising and organizations (like the 25+ parents that volunteer to push props on the field for marching band performances at home games and weekly competitions). Also extremely high percentage of students go on to college, due to great academic support and expectation to prepare students for the next stage of education.

highlands isnt as great as everyone thinks it is. yes most kids go on to college but that has more to do with the middle to upper middle class community that make up the school. most parents in the area are college grads themselves

As a former student, I would say that Highlands was the best preparation for college that anyone could possibly have received. I'm currently at a very challenging college and it still amazes me how many people don't know how to write the way that John Williamson taught all of us to write. The academics at Highlands are impecible and the teachers are so wonderful- by senior year they were all more like friends than mere educators. The surrounding community also makes Highlands work so well; with a community that is filled with active parents and grandparents, all of which want the students to succeed, it's very difficult not to succeed. It is a school that lacks diversity which in some ways can be a downfall, but at the same time, students at Highlands don't seem to have a desire to remain that way but rather, most desire a more diversified system.

As a former student of Highlands, now enrolled in college, I can say Highlands definently prepared me for higher education. The academics are challenging and the extracurricular activities numerous. The only downfall of Highlands is the lack of economic, ethnic, and religious diversity among the faculty and student body. This lack of diversity is a product of the almost strictly middle-class, white surrounding community. Hopefully, this will change with time, allowing students to gain a more accurate world-perspective.

Best school in Northern Kentucky, hands down. One of three HS in Kentucky to be ranked in the Princeton Review top 1000 schools in the Nation. Tight community funds this highly competitive school.

As an alumni I only wish I had a public school like this to which I could send my kids down here in FL. The education I received was outstanding and playing football taught me many lessons about life as well. It appears as though things have not changed much either. The testing scores continue to soar well above the other schools in the area. If you are moving to N. Ky, seriously consider Ft. Thomas. Having chosen the U S Navy as a career, I have moved around every 3 - 4 years for 20 years and I have yet to find a public school that rivals HHS in academic standards and availability of sports competition.

I am not a parent, however I am a graduate of HHS. My mom, my sister and I are all alumni and I have two brothers still in attendance. I could not be more proud to say that I am a product of the Fort Thomas Independent School District. Highlands High School challenged me and supported me. They care about their students. I cannot wait to one day raise my own children in this district.
